MIAMI

Interior Designer in Miami

Thirty years of high-end residential interiors, from a studio based in Miami.

Our studio is at 265 NE 59th Street, a few blocks from the Design District, and Miami is where most of our work begins.

Designing here is not the same as designing anywhere else, and the differences are structural rather than stylistic. Nearly every luxury residence in this market is either an oceanfront condominium inside a strict association, a historically designated property with a preservation board, or a waterfront home built to hurricane code. Each of those brings a set of rules that decides what is possible before anyone opens a fabric book.

The light is the other difference. Miami light is intense, high-angle and reflective off water, and it moves through a room very differently from light anywhere north of here. Impact glazing, which is mandatory in Miami-Dade, changes it again: the glass has a different optical character and a palette approved under showroom lighting can read completely wrong once it is installed.

That is why we approve finishes in the actual room, in daylight, through the actual glass.

Common questions

Where is your studio in Miami?

Jorge Castillo Design is at 265 NE 59th Street, Miami, FL 33137, a few blocks from the Design District. Meetings are by appointment only.

Do you design oceanfront condominiums and penthouses in Miami?

Yes, and it is a large part of our work. Designing in a Miami tower means resolving plans around fixed plumbing risers, detailing to the reveal depth that impact glazing produces, and specifying flooring against the acoustic assembly the building requires.

How much does an interior designer cost in Miami?

Published market ranges put hourly rates in Miami at roughly $100 to $300, with flat fees for the initial phase of a luxury project commonly between $5,000 and $15,000. Jorge Castillo Design offers both hourly and flat rate design fees, quoted per project.

Do you work in Miami Beach historic districts?

Yes. Properties in the Art Deco, MiMo and Spanish Mediterranean districts require a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Board for exterior work, while the interior of a private residence is largely unrestricted. The hardest problem is usually the window specification, which has to satisfy both preservation guidelines and hurricane code.

What areas of Miami do you cover?

Miami Beach, Brickell, Edgewater, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Bal Harbour, Surfside, Sunny Isles Beach, Coconut Grove, Aventura, the Design District and Doral, along with the wider Miami-Dade area.

Do you design lobbies and common areas for Miami buildings?

Yes. Common-area work for residential towers is commissioned by the association or the ownership group and is a distinct discipline from private residential design. It is particularly relevant for buildings recovering from a recertification or repair cycle.
